Ministry of Justice and Dimension of Justice- my solutions
The Ministry of Justice in Trinidad is seriously ill. We have a flawed law, ill-functioning courts and prosecution offices in which there is corruption and nepotism. The whole system is poorly organized, expensive, inefficient, hinders our economic development and does not meet the needs of society.
In my opinion, the first points of necessary changes and repair of this system, including:
1) Abolish the immunity of judges and prosecutors;
In most countries of the European Union, judges and prosecutors have no immunity, have normal working hours and are deprived of the privileges of invincibility, so their status is in fact similar to that of public officials. "In the USA, England and many other countries, the judges do not have immunity. Now in Trinidad, the immunity serves only to protect judges and prosecutors; policemen and lawyers from being responsible for common crimes. It's like racial segregation, where the innocent citizen pays for mistakes or deliberate intentions in the corrupt dimension of justice. This causes arises of lynch law and people begin to mete out punishment on their own.
2) Appointing the Independent Commission for the Analysis of Court Processes to assess sentences violating the law, similar to the English CCRC.
An even worse situation is when an unlawful verdict is approved in higher instances, including the Supreme Court. If such unlawful, unfair verdict is approved by successive instances, it is not a matter of confusion, lack of knowledge or lack of experience, and it results from widespread corruption. That is why it is necessary to set up the so-called CCRC, which will analyze and assess blatant cases of infringements. Only in this way will it be possible to fight for the restoration of justice and the rule of law and fight corruption in the administration of justice.
3) Introduction of competitions and elections for regional and district judges and prosecutors, and appellate prosecutors.
Currently, judges and prosecutors are practically select and choose by themselves, no one controls them, so they feel completely unpunished. This results in a decrease in the prestige of judges and prosecutors and the appointment of people with low professional and moral qualifications to positions of responsibility. The introduction of competitions and choices for responsible positions will allow the reestablishment of the authority of courts and prosecutors and improve their functioning. It's time to begin to appreciate education and recognize its positive impact in everyday life. Would you rather prefer a half-wit to decide about your life and society?
It's just a substitute to fix the sick system, sick state and broken people... Write in a comment what you think should be changed in the Ministry of Justice and in the Dimension of Justice. Justify your comment.
Almost every crime is connected with the special forces, police officers, solicitors or some politician. These are officers who had close contacts with the criminal underworld and became its leader. They organized illicit trade in fuels, alcohol, founded security companies, started to operate in the financial services industry, in foreign trade, trad in drugs and trade in weapons.
We all want a healthy, equitable and safe country. That is why it would be good if we united forces and helped fight evil. To achieve this, we need to unite different social forces. I am calling on non-governmental organizations, the media, local authorities, government, parliament, and the whole Trini society to support my initiatives and actions in favor of a peaceful and secure future. This task is difficult but feasible. Let us build together the COUNTRY OF LAW.
