Trini people are very open, positive towards others and always smiling. Very early you will find, that life goes completely different rhythm in Trinidad than in Europe. We, Europeans are workaholics, perpetually stressed out with work and our graphics filled with overtime... Trini people do not pay much attention to the work. I did not hear that the Trinidadian took overtime, stressed with deadlines at work or took work home. Maybe because the work is treated subordinate here, the biggest aspects of their lives are good relationships with people, fun and free time.
Another observation is that these people live stress free and do not care about time. Punctuality is a foreign concept to them. After that, they love chatting with friends and strangers, e.g. tourists. Trini men usually meet in cars, for example in the middle of the road - then they exchange a few words and continue driving - at the same time blocking the drive on both sides of the road! Nobody screams, no one gets mad, no one is in a hurry so they do not pay attention because they have always lived in such a way. Trini women love gossip like maids at the market for the whole day (on the street, with neighbors or in a shop around the corner). They do not belong to independent women - they rarely work! They think that men should earn and they only spend... The most important thing is that the man would have the money and regardless of how he earned it.
If women are not interested in the source of their husband's income, it is obvious, that the guy will be a womanizer. Once he takes money from another woman to please the wife, then he joins forces with dealers and starts trading drugs, eventually he will become a gangster with 5 women. It is obvious that these women accept it because he surely brings money - humiliating truth!!! And this is just one of the reasons why the level of crime in this country is increasing from year to year, but I will write about it in the next post.
